Know What You’re Dealing With
As you prepare to clean your towels, the right start means knowing what your towels require and how to take proper care of them. There are a few foundations to keep in mind. For the most part, beach towels are made of cotton, which as a rule is a soft and relatively easy to treat material. The general rule with cotton is to wash it on a hot water setting. If your towel is a mix of materials besides cotton, then it might have other requirements.

Additionally, beach towels use what are known as colorfast materials, to ensure that they don’t lose their color in their frequent contact with water. Start Before You Leave
After a day at the beach, your towel has probably…collected things, mostly sand. Even if your trip was just to the pool, your towel is bound to have caught some debris, whether from a chair, the concrete, or even you drying off. To get it good and clean, and keep it from being damaged, the process starts right when you get back. You don’t want sand or debris getting in your washing machine, or your other laundry. So first thing when you get back, or even right as you leave, shake down your towel, beat the sand & debris out of it. A few good snaps will help ensure its as clean as possible. Another good step is to run the vacuum on it to dislodge grains that have sunk particularly deep into the fibers.
Prevent Marks & Stains
Another thing that beach towels encounter a lot of is moisture other than water. When we’re relaxing at the beach, it comes with things like fruit drinks, soda, popsicles, all of which can be prone to messes amid the excitement and less treat-like messes like mud, or even ink! Whatever the source, the last thing you want is for the great image you have printed on your towel to be marred by something off the beach. Every kind of stain is different, so you’ll need to look up the best method for the stain you’re dealing with, but the most important thing is to treat it quickly; stains come out much easier the earlier they are handled.
Putting the Clean on Them
With some preparation out of the way, you can actually get the cleaning done! The best way to wash them once they’re sorted is a hot wash, followed by a cold rinse. As long as the detergent is good, the towels will get nice and clean. When the wash cycle is done, whether you give them a tumble dry or air dry is up to you, just avoid leaving them in sunlight, where their colors can get faded.
